About the painting: Camellias in Blue

In early winter, camellias bloom in the Meditation Garden at the Association for Research and Enlightenment (A.R.E.) Campus in Virginia Beach, Virginia. This Chinese blue-and-white porcelain vase was donated to the A.R.E. The vase, flowers, and background created a lovely combination of colors and tones. The art piece was auctioned to raise money for the A.R.E. member congress.

I used a technique found in Linda Stevens Moyer's book Light Up Your Watercolors Layer by Layer. I am always looking for ways to bring more color into my paintings. This technique reminded me of silkscreen color separations. The result provided very rich greens, intensified colors, and subtle undertones to the whole piece
